Evelyn is a 12 year old DSH female. She was live trapped in Bovey. She has a cute squeaky voice, and will melt into your hand while you give her scratchies
If you are looking for a comfortable way to support animals, we have the following hat for sale for $10. All of the proceeds go to helping improve animal's lives. You can buy yours today for a great cause!

Star of the North hats are available for $10.00.

Star of the North Humane Society would like to share some of our Blessings...

1. The merchants in our community...

....who have helped take care of animals by sponsoring a fundraiser, donating a raffle item, or allowing us to put a donation can in their shop. We'd also like to thank our local Target and Walmart stores that have donated pet food to us. What we don't use we can re-distribute to local food shelves, small "rescues", and needy individuals.

3. Low-cost spay and neuter services...

Picture
.... for people who want to do the right thing but may not be able to afford it is definitely a blessing! One of our very important partners in this endeavor is Pet Haven, Inc of Minnesota. Pet Haven awards small grants for spaying and neutering and we were given $2000 for 2013--twice as much as last year! Northland Spay and Neuter Clinic of Duluth is another organization to which we feel very grateful. Without their Neuter Commuter program we would not be able to provide a low-cost spay/neuter program here.

2. The veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other staff...

....who provide animal care in our area. We count on their knowledge and compassion to determine the most effective and humane treatments for the animals we bring to them.

4. People who give a monetary gift...

....to Star of the North. Some send a donation to remember a beloved pet, often a dog or cat who was adopted from Star of the North. Some simply want to support animal welfare efforts in  the area. Others are kind-hearted animal lovers who remember a local shelter or rescue group in their will. (It's always very moving to find out that a person may not have had a lot---yet they left something to help neglected, abused, and abandoned animals.) In addition, some are family and friends who choose to honor their loved ones who have passed away by making a donation to Star of the North. All of these people touch our hearts!

5. Volunteers!

They show up at 5:45 am every month to help with the Neuter Commuter and clean the crates to be used for next time. They pick up donated items and deliver them where needed, pick up abandoned or surrendered animals, and take rescued animals to the vet. They do foster care for animals (including socialization and nursing care when needed) until the pets can find a permanent home. They raise money by organizing fundraisers, collecting the money from the donation cans, and applying for grants. Some volunteers work in the background: answering calls for assistance and the neuter commuter, keeping the website and Facebook page updated, writing thank yous to donors, organizing the Society’s paperwork and making sure everything that a non-profit needs for its 501(c)3 status is kept up-to-date. Sounds like a lot of volunteers, right? Actually, it’s a small group. Some of them do all of the above and more and would love your help.

Star of the North Humane Society is operated entirely by volunteers.  we currently have a shelter that is only capable of housing cats. our dogs are all in foster care. our volunteers help with rescuing and rehoming unwanted companion animals. We care for the animals until they can find their forever homes.
We also facilitate a low-cost spay/neuter program for people with a household income of less than $40,000, and we distribute donated pet food to local food shelves, small rescue groups, and needy individuals. When you call, please leave a clear message. There is no one to take your initial call, but we make every effort to respond as soon as possible. If you have submitted an application to volunteer, foster, or adopt, your application will be processed as soon as possible and you will receive an email or phone call confirming the status. Thank you.
